Guiding Principles

Don't go it alone!

Keep it simple.

Enjoy the journey.

I'm Janice, a Consumer Advocate and your host of TechSMART Living.

A baby boomer from the world of Public Health and Technology, I'm on a mission to help you find the most useful and usable technology for aging with independence.

I know it can be overwhelming! I hope our blog and growing collection of TechSMART Insights will make it all a bit easier to sort out and give you some peace of mind.

Wishing you the best,

Janice

My Story

I am a health and communication technology professional turned consumer advocate.

While championing new ways for people to manage their health with mobile technology, I began looking for more consumer technologies to help my parents age with independence. mHealth was groundbreaking but just one piece of the puzzle.

Tech is all around us but it's changing faster than ever.

Some works like we expect it to.

Some does not!

Some has hidden costs.

Some is free!

Some works in the U.S. but not in Canada.

How can anyone keep up?

I have an advantage. I'm trained to identify and evaluate the options: to find what useful, what's real, what's missing, what's hype or not quite what it seems to be!  And it's what I do...every day!

So here I am, your host of TechSMART Living, an online guide to help older adults, their families and caregivers find the most useful, doable tech strategies for aging with independence.

I hope you'll find something useful here and let us know how the technology you try works for you. Your lived experience can help all our readers find the best tech fit to match to their needs.

Wishing you all the best,

Janice
